LAUGHTER YOGA – Laughing for Health
Laughter Yoga was created by Dr Madan Kataria in India in 1995 who, having conducted a study on the benefits and positive impact of laughter on Health, decided to create Laughter Clubs. The method quickly gained credibility and now we find it in more than 100 countries. It arrived in Portugal in 2005 obtaining great success since.
Laughter Yoga combines deep breathing exercises with laughter exercises thus moving from “induced” Laughter to true and genuine Laughter. During a Laughter Session, we move from the Sympathetic System (alert system) to the Parasympathetic System (relaxation system). The Laughter Session lasts approximately 1 hour and the whole process is fun and healthy, as it has been scientifically proven that Laughing every day continuously (10 minutes) produces numerous benefits for our physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual health as follows:
. Laughing helps you cope in a healthy way with the challenges of everyday life.
. It increases self-confidence, self-esteem and creativity.
. Strengthens the cardiovascular system.
. Strengthens and “cleans” the respiratory system.
. When we laugh, we release positive chemicals throughout our body like serotonin (natural antidepressant), endorphins (palliative pain hormones), dopamine (increases energy), and we drop cortisol, a hormone that causes stress.
. Laughter also causes a considerable increase in oxygen intake, which favours our brain and our cells.
These are just some of the huge advantages we get when we laugh unconditionally.
Now, it all depends on you ☺
See you for a Laugh!
